In Masoala, firewood from Canarium trees is sold under the local name ‘Aramy’. Aramy contains a lot of resin and has an oily smell. The wood is therefore highly flammable.
The actual resin from the Canarium trees is called ‘Tzirorano’ in the local language. It is used to caulk dugout canoes (piroges) and to make candles.
