During your visit to the zoo, enjoy culinary delights at our restaurants and food stands. In our two shops, you’ll find a selection of products to browse through.
Are you looking for a special experience with excellent dining? Then we recommend our culinary experiences, such as Masoala by Night, Tropical Dinner, Brunch at the Elephant Park, and more.
In our restaurants and stores, we strive for the greatest possible environmental, economic, and social sustainability—from purchasing and processing to reuse and disposal.
Origin and Sourcing
Most of our ingredients—and whenever possible—come from the region or at least from Switzerland. We do not use any air-freighted products.
Our fish comes from Swiss waters or Swiss fish farms. We do not use saltwater fish, shellfish, or other seafood.
Our meat comes exclusively from animals raised in Switzerland under humane conditions.
Our ice cream is made from Swiss milk and cream and is palm oil-free.
Our French fries are made from potatoes grown in the canton of Zurich (“Regio-Frites”), fried in Swiss canola oil, and are palm oil-free.
On a case-by-case basis, we source products from Swiss aid organizations or outsource suitable work processes to such institutions.
In our zoo shops, we prioritize fairly produced items. We source some items ourselves as direct imports on-site to support sustainable projects.
Offer
Half of the dishes offered in the zoo restaurants are vegetarian or vegan. We are continuing to expand our selection in this regard.
In our zoo restaurants, we offer guests a variety of dishes made entirely from organic ingredients. We use only Swiss organic raw products such as fresh milk, oat milk, and shell eggs.
Waste, Disposal, and Cleaning
Our disposable tableware is made from cellulose, cornstarch, fallen areca palm leaves, or wood. It is therefore completely biodegradable.
Whenever possible, we collect this single-use tableware separately as organic waste so that it can be used to produce biogas and natural fertilizer.
We combat food waste by analyzing our food scraps and adjusting our menu planning accordingly. We also maintain partnerships with organizations that combat food waste using innovative solutions.
In our restaurants, we use biodegradable, palm oil-free cleaning products and Dyson hand dryers.
Funding for Nature Conservation
The profits from the zoo restaurants and shops go directly to Zoo Zurich, thereby supporting our mission. Two percent of all revenue from the zoo restaurants and shops is allocated to Zoo Zurich’s nature conservation projects.
