Connecting what belongs together.

Nature, animals and people: Zoo Zurich brings together what belongs together.

We open up this space and invite you to step inside. To come closer, to observe, to discover. To recognize and understand connections. To build bridges. To grasp the big picture. To see nature and animals with fresh eyes. To take action together. To sustainably support the coexistence of nature, animals, and people.

At a table

As a conservation organization, we protect animal species and habitats—in Zurich and around the world. In doing so, we follow the “One Plan Approach” (OPA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); a holistic approach that brings all stakeholders together and unites all elements necessary to protect habitats and species.

«Through our global network in habitat and species conservation, research and education, we promote sustainable coexistence between nature, animals and people.»

Dr Severin Dressen, Director of Zoo Zurich

Our Four Pillars

As a modern zoo, we achieve our mission through four main objectives: habitat conservation, species conservation, research, and education.

Two places, one goal

We build a bridge between Zurich and the natural environments of this world. Our habitats are closely linked to our conservation projects – today and in the future.

Development Plan 2050

Our zoo of the future

How do we help preserve nature? How do we design habitats for our animals? What about our guests’ experience? The development plan has the answers.
