Lemongrass

Cymbopogon citratus

Lemongrass not only has a pleasant scent, but also protects the soil from erosion.

An aromatic oil is distilled from the leaves of lemongrass, which imparts a lemony scent to soaps, cosmetics, teas, and soups.

Because lemongrass forms a dense root system, it is also used to stabilize slippery slopes and ditches prone to erosion.

The plant is native to the Caribbean and Central America.
