Breeding programme

Male and female red-breasted geese stay together for life, as do all true geese. During the breeding season, a few pairs come together to form a colony.

The down-padded nests are usually situated in the immediate vicinity of birds of prey or seagulls, in order to increase breeding success.

Red-breasted geese spend the winter on the Caspian Sea. Some vagrants make their way as far as Europe and the Nile.
