This tree, which grows up to 18 metres tall and has an umbrella-shaped crown up to 45 metres wide, is native to Madagascar. Its distribution extends throughout the tropics, where it is effusively praised by many travellers to the tropics for its beautiful scarlet flowers. In Asia, the Royal poinciana is known as the flamboyant. Its wood is suitable for construction, whilst its bark provides dye and resin.
