This shrub or tree, which can grow up to seven meters tall, is found in the relatively dry forests of southern Madagascar. All 13 uncarina species are capable of storing large amounts of water in their root systems.
The capsules of uncarina have spines with hooks that anchor themselves in the fur and skin of animals. This is how the seeds are dispersed throughout the forest.
