The yellow tree monitor is named after the German terrarium keeper Manfred Reisinger.

Like all tree monitor lizards, the yellow tree monitor is characterised by its vividly coloured scales. All species also feature an impressive long prehensile tail, which can account for two-thirds of the animal’s total length.

The yellow tree monitor has a very small range: it is found exclusively on the island of Misool (West Papua, Indonesia).
