Rendering des geplanten Ndoki Gartens mit Ziegen-Streichelzoo im Zoo Zürich.

19.10.2026 — Current notes

Mongolian Steppe closed

Starting October 19, 2026, the area that was previously the Mongolian Steppe and the camel enclosure will be closed due to construction work.

In place of the former habitats for yaks, cashmere goats, goitered gazelles and camels, we are creating the Ndoki Garden. It will provide an early home for the giant trees that will later offer western lowland gorillas innovative natural climbing opportunities in the planned Ndoki Forest. A contact area with Peacock goats and a new playground are also being created here.

The visitor path through the Mongolian Steppe will therefore be closed from October 19, 2026. The new route is signposted. The yaks, cashmere goats and goitered gazelles will remain at Zoo Zurich for the time being and can be seen in other habitats; the camels have already left Zoo Zurich.

Further information

Information on the altered route can be found on the zoo map. The online Animal and Plant Encyclopedia contains all the species you can visit at the zoo. The Ndoki Forest page provides full details about the habitat project.

Help us

The Ndoki Garden is a precursor to the Ndoki Forest, which we are financing through donations. Support us by sponsoring an Ndoki tree.
