«Educated and empowered communities are key to protecting ecosystems.»

Three questions for Purity
What motivates you to work for the Lewa Conservation Project?
I firmly believe that educated and empowered communities are essential to preserving our fragile ecosystems for future generations—in Lewa and around the world.
What has been an unforgettable moment in your project?
There have been many. My most recent highlight is a series of animations created independently by ten-year-olds. Through these animations, they express their appreciation for species and nature conservation and show society how important conservation efforts are. That moves me because it demonstrates that our work empowers children to become problem-solvers.
What is your greatest wish for your project?
I hope that our successful approach will be adopted more widely, both in Kenya and beyond. I would like the national government to draw on our experience and incorporate our tools into the general curriculum, thereby recognising the value of education for sustainable nature and species conservation.
