Construction of the Pantanal Wetlands is progressing

Good news at Zoo Zurich: Work has been proceeding at a brisk pace over the past six months at the construction site for the Pantanal Wetlands. And now, the steel construction work on the aviary—which had been temporarily suspended—is resuming!

Over the past few months, there has been a flurry of activity at the construction site for the new South American habitat. The indoor facilities for waterfowl and parrots were completed and put into operation. At the same time, the technical systems for water intake and discharge were installed across the 11,000-square-metre area, while the artificial rock formations were also gradually taking shape.

To continue construction of the aviary, the two new steel construction companies, Stakotra Manufacturing s.r.o. and Cimolai S.p.A., are currently transporting the first prefabricated components from their factories in Slovakia and Italy to the construction site. First, the necessary substructure will be erected. The arch girders will then be placed on top of it and welded together.

Zoo Zurich is pleased with the progress being made on the construction of the Pantanal Wetlands and that the aviary is now gradually taking shape. As always, Zoo Zurich will provide regular updates on further developments at the construction site.
